Digital Marketing and Social Media Manager – Independent Contractor (Part-Time, Fixed-Term)
Interesting Things is a placemaking and events company focused on transforming public spaces into vibrant, inclusive destinations across Tāmaki Makaurau’s waterfront and central city. We create placemaking programmes, cultural festivals, markets, performances, and innovative projects that connect people with place.
We’re looking for an experienced independent contractor to provide digital marketing and social media services on a part-time basis (10 hours per week) for an initial 4‑month term.
Interesting Things is based in Newton in Auckland Central, and the contractor may work remote, at project sites, and at the Interesting Things office as needed.
Candidates must be New Zealand residents and based in Auckland.

Developing and implementing digital marketing and social media campaigns to increase engagement and visibility for specific projects and programmes
Managing social media channels to support community-building
Planning and scheduling high-quality written, visual, and video content across digital + social media channels
Producing creative assets using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and other relevant tools
Updating and maintaining website content and event listings
Monitoring and reporting on key digital metrics, and implementing improvements based on performance insights
Liaising with Interesting Things’ team, while working autonomously to plan and execute tasks within agreed timeframes and budgets
Event and programme production support as required

At least 5+ years’ experience in social media management and digital marketing
Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms and audiences
Proven experience planning and delivering digital campaigns (organic and/or paid) from concept through to reporting
Strong content creation skills, including copywriting, design, and basic video creation/editing for social media
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator)
Experience managing projects in Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms)
Experience with website content management and online event listings
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and self-direct workload within the agreed hours
Understanding or interest in placemaking, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, community engagement, and arts and culture in Tāmaki Makaurau

This is an independent contractor arrangement, and not an employment position.
Initial 4‑month contract, with any extension or additional work subject to a separate or varied agreement
Hours are approximately 10 per week across various projects, flexibly scheduled by mutual agreement based on project needs and deliverables.
$50 per hour + GST, invoiced by the contractor in accordance with agreed payment terms
Auckland-based with a mix of remote, on-site, and office-based work as required
The contractor is responsible for their own tax, ACC, KiwiSaver, insurance, and any other statutory obligations.
The contractor will use their own tools and equipment where practicable (e.g. laptop, home office, software), except where access to Interesting Things’ systems or assets is required for project delivery.
